28 pigeons were basketed this year for the race from Narbonne. The team consists of 11 old birds and 17 yearlings. The captain of the yearlings is Koen, 8th national Agen 2021.
The pigeons were released on Friday morning at 8 am in Narbonne for a race of 914 km. On the way there was mainly west wind and southwest wind, which is very favorable for us. We hadn't been waiting that long when I saw a pigeon coming from the east. After some delay, this hen was clocked at 19.49, good for 1st provincial and 2nd national old birds! This hen will henceforth be known as Nina, named after Nina Derwael, who won gold at the Olympic Games in the same weekend. Nina was born from Jonas, a son of the stock couple Polleke and Kiana. Her mother is a hen bred by Koen de Backer (Hoevenen, BE), which was acquired through an exchange. After the arrival of Nina it was a long wait for the 2nd pigeon. Fortunately, Koen arrived at 21.34. He still wins the 88th national yearlings and will therefore score high in the national ace pigeon yearlings!
